Schools in Kamrup, Assam Closed Due to Heatwave from September 24-27

All government, provincialised, and private schools in Kamrup (Metro) district, Assam, will be closed from September 24 to September 27 due to excessive heat and rising temperatures, an official said.

In an order issued by the District Elementary Education Officer, Kamrup (Metro) district, it was stated, “Based on the reports received from Head of the Institutions of different schools under Kamrup Metro regarding various incidents of ill-health and fainting of students due to excessive heat and dehydration and with due approval from District Commissioner, Kamrup Metro, it has been decided that all Govt/ Provincialised/ Private schools functioning under Kamrup Metro district are to remain close from 24th to 27th September 2024 due to excessive heat and rising temperature in the district.”

This decision aims to safeguard the students from the ill-effects of exposure to excessive heat, ensuring their health and well-being. The order comes into immediate effect.

Parts of Assam have been facing heatwave conditions, prompting authorities in several areas to change school timings. On Friday, the Assam government issued new guidelines, including school hours, to protect students’ health amid the heatwave-like situation in the state.
