Schools and Colleges Closed in Kerala Due to Heavy Rain Alert

Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], June 27: Schools and colleges will remain closed on Thursday in six districts of Kerala due to a rain alert issued by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The districts affected are:

  • Pathanamthitta
  • Kottayam
  • Alappuzha
  • Idukki
  • Ernakulam
  • Wayanad

However, all professional exams scheduled for the day will not be cancelled. Some districts have been experiencing continuous rainfall for the last two days. The Regional Met Centre of Thiruvananthapuram has issued an orange alert for Wayanad and Kannur, and a yellow alert for Kasaragode, Kozhikode, Malappuram, Palakkad, Thrissur, Idukki, and Ernakulam.

Earlier, an orange alert was issued for eight districts, including Wayanad, Kannur, Kasaragode, Kozhikode, Idukki, Ernakulam, Pathanamthitta, and Thiruvananthapuram. The IMD predicts heavy to very heavy rainfall along the West Peninsular Coast and over northeast India from June 27 to June 30. Rainfall activity is expected to increase over Northwest India from June 28 to June 30.

The IMD also provided an update on the advancement of the southwest monsoon, stating that conditions are becoming favorable for its further advance into various parts of India over the next 3-4 days.
