The Sharjah Museums Authority (SMA) is hosting a special conference titled “SAWA: A Decade of Cross-Cultural Museum Learning” from November 4th to 5th, 2024. This event marks the tenth anniversary of the SAWA Museum Studies Programme, a collaboration between SMA, Berlin State Museums, the Goethe-Institute Gulf Region, and the University of Applied Sciences Berlin.

The conference will be held at the Sharjah Archaeology Museum and online, allowing global participation. Organized with the support of Crescent Group and the Sharjah Commerce and Tourism Development Authority, the event celebrates the SAWA programme’s impact on cultural exchange and museum learning.

Supported by the Consulate General of Germany in Dubai, the conference underscores the strong UAE-Germany ties and their commitment to cultural diplomacy. It will feature discussions on the SAWA curriculum and networking opportunities for museum professionals.

Keynote speakers include Sheikh Fahim AlQasimi, who will discuss the importance of museums in Sharjah, and Aisha Deemas, who will talk about the SAWA programme’s growth. Sybille Pfaff will highlight Germany’s role in cultural exchanges.

Sessions will cover international cooperation’s impact on museum standards and audience engagement. The event concludes with a panel on “Aspirations and Obstacles: Striving for Impact Amidst Challenges.”
