Wayanad Bye-Elections: Political Tensions Rise

In Wayanad, Kerala, the political scene is heating up as the Left Democratic Front (LDF) candidate, Satyan Mokeri, criticized Congress leader Rahul Gandhi for causing bye-elections by vacating his Wayanad seat. Mokeri accused Congress of fearing the election outcome, as they predict a 5-6 lakh majority for Priyanka Gandhi, their new candidate.

Meanwhile, BJP’s candidate, Navya Haridas, expressed confidence in gaining support, citing the need for political change in Wayanad. Haridas, who filed her nomination recently, highlighted the lack of attention to local issues by previous MPs, especially concerning the tribal population.

Priyanka Gandhi, making her electoral debut, filed her nomination with a grand roadshow, supported by Rahul Gandhi and other Congress leaders. The Wayanad seat was vacated by Rahul Gandhi after his election from Raebareli, Uttar Pradesh. The Congress party approved Priyanka’s candidacy on October 15, following the Election Commission’s announcement of the bypoll schedule.

Wayanad will vote on November 13, alongside bye-elections in 47 assembly seats across 15 states, and the first phase of assembly polls in Jharkhand.
