On October 24, the Punjab BJP expelled Satkar Kaur, a former MLA, for six years following her arrest in a drug-related case. The decision was announced by Punjab BJP general secretary Anil Sarin, under the direction of Punjab BJP chief Sunil Jakhar. Kaur and her nephew were arrested for allegedly attempting to sell heroin in Kharar, Mohali. Kaur previously served as an MLA for the Ferozepur Rural constituency from 2017 to 2022. After being denied a ticket by Congress in the 2022 Assembly elections, she joined the BJP.

Punjab By-Elections

The BJP has announced candidates for the upcoming by-elections on November 13 for four assembly seats in Punjab: Gidderbaha, Dera Baba Nanak, Chabbewal, and Barnala. These by-elections are necessary as the previous MLAs were elected to the Lok Sabha. Manpreet Singh Badal, a former Punjab finance minister, will contest from Gidderbaha. Ravi Karan Singh Kahlon and Kewal Singh Dhillon will contest from Dera Baba Nanak and Barnala, respectively. The by-elections will occur across 48 constituencies in 15 states, with vote counting on November 23.
