Sardar Singh Excited for Hockey India League 2024-25 Auction
In Bengaluru, former Indian hockey captain Sardar Singh, who won the Major Dhyan Chand Khel Ratna Award in 2017, is thrilled about the return of the Hockey India League (HIL). Over 1,000 players have registered for the HIL 2024-25 Players’ Auction, with the Men’s Auction on October 13 and 14, and the Women’s Auction on October 15.
Sardar Singh, who was named Player of the Tournament in the first edition in 2013 with Delhi Waveriders, expressed his excitement about the league’s return. He highlighted the league’s role in providing a high-performance environment and exposure to international-level hockey, which has been crucial for young players.
As the youngest captain of the Indian team at 21, Sardar Singh has mentored many players, including current Vice Captain Hardik Singh. He believes the HIL has inspired the success of the Junior Men’s Hockey Team and helped players like Harmanpreet Singh develop their skills.
Sardar Singh’s career includes silver medals at the 2010 and 2014 Commonwealth Games, gold medals at the Asia Cup in 2007 and 2017, and a gold at the 2014 Asian Games. He played 314 matches for India, with his last international match at the 2018 Asian Games.
The HIL 2024-25 auction will be broadcast live on DD Sports, and Sardar Singh hopes to see new talents emerge and elevate Indian hockey.
