Sarbananda Sonowal Leads Cleanliness Drive and BJP Membership Campaign in Assam
On September 20, Union Minister of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, Sarbananda Sonowal, participated in several events in Margherita, Tinsukia district, Assam. He took part in the ‘Swachhata Sewa’ programme and took oath as the Poden member of the Margherita Municipal Board.
Swachhata Sewa Programme
During the cleanliness drive, Sonowal emphasized the importance of cleanliness, stating, “Cleanliness is like Godliness.” He highlighted the success of the Swachh Bharat Abhiyaan, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi and led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, which has significantly improved sanitation in India.
Sonowal, along with Margherita MLA Bhaskar Sharma, Mayor Anand Sharma, and other municipal representatives, participated in the march. He also laid a wreath at the statue of Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose, cleaned the martyr’s memorial, planted saplings, and engaged with local shopkeepers and sanitation workers.
BJP Membership Drive
Sonowal also took part in the BJP’s ongoing membership drive at Makum. He noted that many individuals joined the party, inspired by its principles and ideals. The ‘Membership Campaign 2024’ aims to strengthen the BJP’s organizational structure nationwide.
Sonowal, who oversees 10 districts in Assam, including Dibrugarh, expressed satisfaction with the overwhelming response to the membership drive. He was joined by party state General Secretary Pulak Gohain, Chairman of Assam Petro-Chemicals Limited Bikul Deka, Tinsukia District BJP President Kushkant Bora, and other office-bearers.

Sonowal called on everyone to commit to building a developed, clean, and equipped township in Margherita. He stressed the importance of upholding democratic values and working towards a self-reliant India, inspired by Mahatma Gandhi’s principles and Prime Minister Modi’s vision.
