Guwahati (Assam), August 21: Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal congratulated Mission Ranjan Das and Rameswar Teli after they filed their nominations for the upcoming Rajya Sabha elections in Assam. The nominations were filed in the presence of Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and other BJP leaders.

Sonowal expressed his hope that both leaders will work towards the development of Assam. He thanked the people of Assam for their support in various elections, which has helped the BJP form the government in the state twice.

Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma also thanked the Central leadership for nominating the candidates. He highlighted that Rameswar Teli, a senior leader from the tea community, is expected to win uncontested. Mission Ranjan Das, a four-time BJP MLA from Karimganj North, is also expected to represent the aspirations of the people of Barak Valley in the Rajya Sabha.

The by-elections were necessitated after Sarbananda Sonowal and Kamakhya Prasad Tasa vacated their Rajya Sabha seats upon being elected to the Lok Sabha. The Election Commission announced that the elections for the 12 vacant Rajya Sabha seats will be held on September 3.
