Pollution Impact

Buddha Nullah is heavily polluted with toxic effluents and untreated sewage, contributing to 90% of the pollution in the Sutlej River. This contaminated water is used for irrigation in Punjab and parts of Rajasthan, affecting over two crore citizens.

Government Actions

In 2020, the State government allocated Rs 650 crore for the rejuvenation project of Buddha Nullah. The MP supported a CBI investigation into any irregularities in the project and called for the closure of polluting industrial plants.

Health Concerns

The pollution has led to serious illnesses among people in Ludhiana and other parts of Punjab and Rajasthan. The MP emphasized the need for effective treatment plants to deal with the pollution.
