Sanju Samson Shines with Back-to-Back Centuries in T20Is Against South Africa

In Durban, South Africa, Sanju Samson made history by becoming the fourth player to score consecutive centuries in T20 International matches. Following the retirement of cricket legends Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma, Samson has emerged as a key player for Indian cricket. After a slow start in the first two T20Is against Bangladesh, Samson found his form, scoring 111 runs off 47 balls in the third match.

In the series opener against South Africa, Samson continued his impressive performance, scoring 107 runs off 50 balls, including seven fours and ten sixes. This achievement placed him in an exclusive group of cricketers who have achieved back-to-back centuries in T20Is, joining Gustav Mckeon, Rilee Rossouw, and Phil Salt. His score of 107 is now the highest individual score in a T20I match between India and South Africa, surpassing David Miller’s 106 in 2022.

Samson expressed that he was in a ‘zone’ where runs came naturally, focusing on hitting the right balls. He acknowledged the role of the pitch and the challenges posed by the wind and the opposing bowlers. Samson’s efforts helped India reach a total of 202/8 in the match.
