Sanjay Nirupam Criticizes Aditya Thackeray Over Election Date Concerns
Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], August 16: Sanjay Nirupam of the Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction) has criticized UBT leader Aditya Thackeray for his comments on the Election Commission of India not announcing the Maharashtra election date. Nirupam dismissed Thackeray’s concerns as ‘childish’ in a tweet on X, accusing the young leader of not understanding the electoral process.
Nirupam’s response came after Thackeray raised concerns on social media about why the election dates for Maharashtra and Jharkhand were not announced alongside those for Jammu and Kashmir and Haryana. Nirupam explained that elections in Jammu and Kashmir must be held by September as per the Supreme Court’s order, while the term of the Haryana Legislative Assembly ends on November 5. The term of the Maharashtra Legislative Assembly ends on November 26, and Jharkhand’s assembly elections are due on January 5 next year.
Earlier, Aditya Thackeray questioned the Election Commission’s decision, asking why Maharashtra was not included in the list of states where elections will be held. Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar clarified that the high demand for security forces in Jammu and Kashmir is the primary reason for not holding elections in Maharashtra at this time.
