Sanjay Kumar Verma Denies Allegations in Hardeep Singh Nijjar Case

New Delhi, October 25: Sanjay Kumar Verma, the recalled Indian High Commissioner to Canada, has firmly denied any involvement in the murder of Khalistani terrorist Hardeep Singh Nijjar. Verma criticized the Canadian government, led by Prime Minister Justin Trudeau, for labeling him a ‘person of interest’ without providing any evidence. He emphasized that no credible evidence has been shared with India regarding the allegations.

Verma Questions Canada’s Legal Actions

Verma questioned the term “credible allegations” used by Trudeau, stating that either allegations are credible or they are not. He expressed surprise at the lack of legal action by Canada, asking why they have not presented any evidence in court. Verma highlighted that the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) is still investigating, and no conclusions have been reached.

Concerns Over Canada-India Relations

Verma also pointed out that Khalistani extremists are not interested in improving Canada-India relations. He criticized the reliance on single-source information without corroboration, stating that such information cannot be considered evidence. Verma was recalled after being named in the Nijjar case, but he has denied all charges.

Background of the Case

The diplomatic tension between India and Canada escalated after Trudeau’s allegations in Parliament about India’s involvement in Nijjar’s murder. India has dismissed these claims as “absurd” and “motivated,” accusing Canada of harboring anti-India elements. Nijjar, declared a terrorist by India’s National Investigation Agency in 2020, was killed outside a Gurdwara in Surrey last year.
