Sanjay Kapoor Elected as FIDE India Zone President

New Delhi, India – Sanjay Kapoor, the former President of the All India Chess Federation (AICF), has been unanimously elected as the FIDE India Zone President. The announcement was made during the AICF’s annual general meeting (AGM) in Ahmedabad. Kapoor will serve as the Zone President for four years.

FIDE President Arkady Dvorkovich congratulated Kapoor on his new role. Kapoor expressed his commitment to growing chess in every corner of India and producing Grandmasters from each state. He said, “It is an immense honour to be elected as the FIDE India Zone President. I am committed to the growth of chess in every corner of our country and ensuring that we produce Grandmasters from each and every state.”

Kapoor has been instrumental in the successful staging of the 44th Chess Olympiad in India. His vision includes harnessing India’s vast talent pool to produce world-class chess players from every state.

On International Chess Day (July 20), FIDE launched a Guinness World Record attempt for the most games played online and over the board in 24 hours. Over 109 national federations and major online chess platforms participated, with almost 350 events globally. FIDE officials, including President Arkady Dvorkovich and former world champions Viswanathan Anand, Zhu Chen, and Alexandra Kosteniuk, met in Paris for the central ceremony celebrating 100 years since the founding of FIDE.
