Sanjauli Mosque Demolition: Plans and Challenges
In Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, the Sanjauli Mosque is set for partial demolition following a court order. Chairman Lucky Mohammad Latif Negi announced that the demolition will begin with the roof of the mosque’s three floors. Negi explained that while people contribute to building mosques, there is little support for demolition. The demolition order follows protests by Hindu organizations and a court ruling on October 5 to remove three unauthorized floors. The mosque committee had initially requested the demolition of two floors to preserve communal harmony. The Himachal Muslim Organization plans to take the matter to court, but Negi emphasizes that the decision aims to maintain social peace. He claims strong support from both Muslim and Hindu communities in Shimla.
