The Sanjauli Mosque Committee in Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, is seeking permission from the Waqf Board to demolish unauthorized structures within the mosque premises. Municipal Commissioner’s Order
On October 5, the Municipal Commissioner ordered the removal of three unauthorized floors of the mosque, giving a two-month deadline for compliance. In response, the mosque committee has requested the Waqf Board’s legal opinion and permission to proceed, emphasizing that any action must align with the Waqf Board’s directives.
Committee’s Commitment
Mohammad Latif Negi, Chief of the Sanjauli Mosque, stated that the committee is ready to comply with the decision once the Waqf Board’s approval is obtained. The local community supports the committee’s decision, seeing it as a step toward maintaining communal harmony.
Opposition from All Himachal Muslim Organization
Meanwhile, the All Himachal Muslim Organization plans to challenge the Municipal Commissioner’s decision in an appellate court, arguing that the order was based on unauthorized applications and ignored important aspects of the mosque’s history and ownership.
