Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, was questioned by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in Kolkata regarding the alleged rape and murder of a trainee doctor. This incident has led to nationwide protests and significant legal actions.

High Court Directive

Following a directive from the Calcutta High Court, the West Bengal Health Department canceled Ghosh’s appointment as the Principal of National Medical College & Hospital. Ghosh had resigned from his position at RG Kar Medical College, citing defamation on social media.

Supreme Court’s Involvement

The Supreme Court has taken suo motu cognizance of the case and formed a National Task Force to recommend guidelines for the safety of medical professionals. The court emphasized the importance of ensuring women’s safety at work and requested status reports from both the CBI and the West Bengal government.

Governor’s Visit

West Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose visited the victim’s family to understand their sentiments. He mentioned that he would write a letter to the Chief Minister based on the information gathered during his visit.

Ongoing Investigation

The CBI is conducting a thorough investigation into the case. Earlier, a CBI team visited RG Kar Medical College and Hospital for a detailed check. The trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of the hospital on August 9.
