Sandip Ghosh, Former Principal of RG Kar Medical College, Faces Financial Irregularities Probe

The Directorate of Enforcement (ED) has conducted raids at the residence of Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in Kolkata, West Bengal. The raids are part of an investigation into financial irregularities at the institution.

The ED registered a case under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA) to investigate money laundering charges against Ghosh. Currently, Ghosh is in the custody of the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

On September 6, Sandip Ghosh filed a petition in the Supreme Court against a Calcutta High Court decision that ordered the CBI to investigate the graft case against him. His plea will be heard by a bench led by Chief Justice of India, DY Chandrachud.

The Anti-Corruption Branch of the CBI arrested Dr. Sandip Ghosh on September 2. He was sent to 8-day police custody on Tuesday. The CBI registered an official FIR against Ghosh on August 24, following orders from the Calcutta High Court.

The Indian Medical Association (IMA) of Kolkata has suspended Sandip Ghosh’s membership amid the ongoing CBI probe. Additionally, the CBI is investigating a separate case involving the death of a trainee doctor at the college. The trainee doctor was found dead in the seminar hall of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital on August 9.

The Calcutta High Court has granted the CBI three weeks to submit a progress report on the investigation, which is due on September 17.
