Sanath Jayasuriya to Continue as Sri Lanka’s Head Coach

Colombo, Sri Lanka – Sri Lanka Cricket (SLC) has confirmed that former captain Sanath Jayasuriya will remain as the head coach of the men’s national team until March 2026. Jayasuriya, who took over as interim coach after Chris Silverwood’s departure post the T20 World Cup 2024, has been rewarded with an extension due to the team’s recent successes.

Recent Achievements

Under Jayasuriya’s leadership, Sri Lanka achieved a notable Test victory against England at The Oval and secured two consecutive wins against New Zealand at home. Additionally, the team triumphed in an ODI series against India.

Future Prospects

Jayasuriya’s tenure will allow him to guide the team through the ICC Champions Trophy in Pakistan next year and potentially the World Test Championship final at Lord’s in June.

Official Announcement

The Executive Committee of Sri Lanka Cricket made the decision based on the team’s strong performances in recent tours. The appointment, effective from October 1, 2024, will last until March 31, 2026. Sri Lanka currently holds third place in the World Test Championship standings, trailing only India and Australia.
