In Chennai, Tamil Nadu, workers at Samsung Electronics have decided to end their 38-day strike and return to work. The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) General Secretary, A Soundararajan, emphasized that the company should not retaliate against employees for the strike. He stated that the administration must respond to employee concerns before the labor department does.

Key Discussions and Agreements

A meeting was held at the Secretariat with four ministers and labor department officials. Decisions were made after hearing both sides, and the labor department issued suggestions for the company to follow. A Memorandum of Understanding was agreed upon, ensuring cooperation between employees and management.

Government and Management Involvement

On October 15, the Tamil Nadu government announced that the strike would be resolved amicably. Several ministers and officials conducted meetings with the involved parties. Samsung Management announced welfare measures for the workers, and conciliation talks were held with both management and workers participating.

The Samsung factory, located in Sunguvarchatiram, Kanchipuram district, employs over 1500 workers. The strike began on September 9, with demands for a wage hike, union recognition, and 8-hour working hours.
