Samosa Mix-Up Sparks Controversy in Himachal Pradesh

In Shimla, Himachal Pradesh, a unique protest called the ‘Samosa’ march was organized by the Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha workers. This event was in response to a controversy involving samosas and cake meant for Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, which were mistakenly served to his staff. The incident occurred on October 21 during a program at the CID headquarters.

Chief Minister’s Response

Chief Minister Sukhu clarified that the investigation was about an incident of misbehavior, not the samosas, and criticized the media for sensationalizing the issue. He stated, “There is no such thing. It (CID) got involved on the issue of misbehavior, but you (the media) are running news about ‘samosa’.”

CID’s Stand

Sanjeev Ranjan Ojha, Deputy General CID, emphasized that the matter was internal and should not be politicized. He mentioned that the CID was investigating how the information was leaked and that the government was not involved.

Details of the Incident

The investigation revealed that an Inspector General officer had ordered food from a five-star hotel for the CM’s program. However, due to a series of miscommunications, the food was served to the staff instead. The inquiry, led by a Deputy Superintendent of Police, aimed to identify the responsible officers and staff members.

Investigation Findings

The report detailed that a woman Inspector, unaware of the intended recipient, directed the food to be placed in a senior officer’s room. The boxes were later opened by a sub-inspector and a head constable, who served the food to the staff. The investigation concluded that only a sub-inspector knew the food was for the CM, but it was mistakenly served to the staff.
