Samajwadi Party’s Fakhrul Hasan Chand Criticizes UP Government’s ‘Love Jihad’ Law

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 30: Samajwadi Party leader Fakhrul Hasan Chand has criticized the Uttar Pradesh government, led by Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, for amending the existing law regarding ‘Love Jihad’. Chand accused the BJP of engaging in negative politics and ignoring important issues like unemployment and corruption.

In a self-made video, Chand stated, “The BJP government, which has brought the ordinance on Love Jihad, already has a law on it. If someone traps someone in his/her love trap with some motive, then there is a law for it but BJP only wants to do negative politics. It does not want to do anything about unemployment and paper leak.”

The Yogi government introduced the UP Prohibition of Unlawful Religious Conversion (Amendment) Bill in the Assembly, which proposes life imprisonment for ‘love jihad’ and doubles the punishments for certain crimes.

Earlier in the day, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath introduced four new ministers to the Assembly: OP Rajbhar, Anil Kumar, Dara Singh Chauhan, and Sunil Sharma. Assembly Speaker Satish Mahana also welcomed Samajwadi Party leader Mata Prasad Pandey as the new Leader of Opposition.

Pandey highlighted serious issues facing the state, including floods, law and order problems, and corruption. Speaker Mahana assured that these issues would be discussed and addressed by the government.
