Samajwadi Party’s Abu Azmi Warns of Contesting Alone in Maharashtra Elections

In Mumbai, Maharashtra, Samajwadi Party’s Maharashtra Chief, Abu Azmi, has reiterated the party’s demand for five seats in the upcoming state assembly elections. Azmi stated that if the seats are not allocated, the party will have no choice but to contest independently. He emphasized that party chief Akhilesh Yadav has given him full authority to make decisions regarding this matter.

Azmi criticized the Congress party, highlighting that unlike Congress, where leaders need to seek permission from Delhi, he has the autonomy to decide. He expressed concerns about potential betrayal from the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance, similar to previous terms, and mentioned that he has not received any communication from Sharad Pawar.

Despite not wanting the MVA to break, Azmi warned that if their demands are not met, the Samajwadi Party might announce candidates for 25 seats. The MVA, which includes Shiv Sena (UBT), Congress, and the Nationalist Congress Party (NCP), has already announced a seat-sharing formula for 255 constituencies, with 85 seats allocated to each party. The remaining 23 seats will be distributed based on party candidate lists.

The Maharashtra Assembly elections are set for November 20, with results to be announced on November 23. In previous elections, the BJP, Shiv Sena, and Congress have been major contenders.
