Sam Pitroda Reappointed as Chairman of Indian Overseas Congress

New Delhi, India – Sam Pitroda has been reappointed as the chairman of the Indian Overseas Congress, according to an announcement by the All India Congress Committee (AICC). The Congress President made this decision effective immediately.

Pitroda had resigned from his position in May following controversies over his remarks about the appearance of Indians. The Congress party distanced itself from his comments, with Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh announcing Pitroda’s resignation on social media.

In an interview, Pitroda reflected on India’s democracy, highlighting the country’s diversity. However, his analogies sparked criticism, especially from the ruling BJP. Prime Minister Narendra Modi condemned the remarks, stating that the country would not tolerate insults based on skin color.

Pitroda has previously made controversial statements, including advocating for an inheritance tax in India, similar to the one in the United States. He emphasized the need for wealth redistribution, which also drew criticism from PM Modi.
