Sailor David Moshe Ben Shitrit Killed During Hezbollah Rocket Attack in Israel
Petty Officer 1st Class David Moshe Ben Shitrit, 21, tragically lost his life when shrapnel from an Iron Dome interceptor fell on his patrol boat during a Hezbollah rocket attack off the coast of northern Israel. Two other sailors sustained moderate and light injuries.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) are currently investigating the incident. Initial findings suggest that the interceptor exploded near the ship while tracking Hezbollah drones, possibly mistaking the patrol boat for a hostile target.
In response to the attacks, around 100 Israeli fighter jets targeted and destroyed numerous Hezbollah launch sites. Nearly 80,000 Israelis have been forced to evacuate their homes near the Lebanon border due to the ongoing attacks, which have resulted in the deaths of 26 civilians and 20 soldiers.
Since October 8, Hezbollah has launched over 6,700 rockets and drones. Israeli officials are calling for Hezbollah to be disarmed and removed from southern Lebanon in line with UN Security Council resolution 1701, which ended the 2006 Second Lebanon War.
