SAD Leaders Revolt Against Sukhbir Singh Badal After Election Defeat

In Chandigarh, Punjab, the Shiromani Akal Dal (SAD) is facing a crisis as senior leaders, including Parminder Singh Dhindsa and Bibi Jagir Kaur, have revolted against party chief Sukhbir Singh Badal. They are demanding a change in leadership following the party’s poor performance in the recent Lok Sabha elections.

Revolt and Demands

Some leaders held a meeting in Jalandhar, seeking Badal’s resignation. Parminder Singh Dhindsa stated that leaders and workers are concerned about the party’s defeat, as SAD won only one out of 13 seats in Punjab. The Bathinda seat was retained by Badal’s wife, Harsimrat.

Concerns and Criticisms

Bibi Jagir Kaur mentioned that attempts to discuss issues with Badal were ignored. She emphasized the need for collective discussions to strengthen the party and announced plans to seek forgiveness at Akal Takht Sahib on July 1 for their silence.

Party’s Response

Akali Dal leader Daljit Singh Cheema addressed the situation, stating that the party is analyzing the remarks and that differences of opinion are normal in a democracy. He criticized the timing of the revolt, suggesting it seemed preplanned.

Support for Badal

Balwinder Singh Bhundal, a core committee member, expressed strong support for Badal, claiming that 99% of members stand with him. He also ruled out any future alliance with the BJP and emphasized the party’s unity and strength.
