SAD Leader Criticizes AAP Government Over Paddy Procurement

In Chandigarh, Punjab, Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) leader Bikram S Majithia has voiced concerns about the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) government’s handling of paddy procurement. He claims that farmers are not receiving the Minimum Support Price (MSP) for their crops, which could lead to financial distress and even suicides among farmers. Majithia plans to meet the Governor of Punjab to address these issues and calls for action against Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann and the Minister of Food and Civil Supplies.

Majithia criticized the government’s failure to make proper arrangements, warning that this could harm agriculture and the economy of Punjab. He alleged that private players are purchasing paddy at low prices and called for an investigation into financial mismanagement.

Response from Punjab Chief Minister

In response, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann has reached out to the Central Government for assistance with paddy procurement. He spoke with Union Home Minister Amit Shah, requesting a solution to the issues faced by rice millers. Mann assured that the state government has addressed most of the millers’ demands and is working to facilitate wheat production for the upcoming harvest season.

Mann highlighted Punjab’s significant contribution to the central food stock and emphasized the need for proper milling facilities. He mentioned a critical meeting in Delhi, chaired by Union Food Minister Prahlad Joshi, to discuss paddy procurement in Punjab.
