New Delhi, September 9: Batting legend Sachin Tendulkar praised India’s para-athletes for their outstanding performance at the Paris Paralympics. The Indian team concluded the event with a record 29 medals, including seven golds, nine silvers, and 13 bronzes, marking India’s best-ever Paralympics performance.

India’s previous record was 19 medals at the Tokyo 2020 Paralympics. This year, India finished 18th overall. Tendulkar expressed his admiration on X, congratulating the athletes, administrators, and support staff.

Highlights of the event included:

  • Avani Lekhara became the first Indian woman to win two Paralympic gold medals, defending her 10m air rifle standing SH1 title with a world record score of 249.7 points.
  • Dharambir and Parnav Soorma achieved a one-two finish in the men’s club throw F51 event, with Dharambir setting an Asian record of 34.92 meters.
  • Praveen Kumar won gold in the T64 high jump with an Asian record-breaking jump of 2.08 meters.
  • Harvinder Singh became India’s first archery champion in both the Olympics and Paralympics, winning gold in the individual recurve para-archery event.
  • Sumit Antil defended his Paralympics title in the F64 javelin throw with a record-breaking throw of 70.59 meters, breaking his own previous record three times.
