New Delhi, India – India’s famous cricketer Sachin Tendulkar shared his sadness over the passing of former England cricketer Graham Thorpe. Thorpe, who was 55 years old, had been ill for a long time. Sachin wrote on X, ‘It’s extremely sad to learn that Graham Thorpe is no longer with us. His reputation as a naturally gifted, free-flowing batter who played fearlessly and with flair, always stood out. Sending my heartfelt condolences to his family and close ones. Rest in peace, Graham.’

Graham Thorpe started playing for England in 1993 and was a key player in the late 90s and early 2000s. He played 100 Test matches, scoring 6744 runs with an average of 44.66, including 16 hundreds and 39 fifties. His highest score was 200*. In One Day Internationals (ODIs), he scored 2380 runs with an average of 37.18 and 21 fifties. Thorpe played in two ICC Men’s Cricket World Cups, scoring 254 runs in 1996 and 125 runs in 1999.

Thorpe reached No.3 in the ICC Test batting rankings in 1998 and No.10 in the ODI rankings. After retiring in 2005, he coached teams like New South Wales, Surrey, and the England Men’s side. He was part of the coaching team that helped England win the 2019 World Cup. Thorpe was England’s assistant coach until the 2021/22 Ashes tour and was appointed as Afghanistan’s head coach in March 2022 but couldn’t take the role due to his illness.
