Sachin Sawant Expresses Displeasure Over Andheri West Candidacy in Maharashtra Elections

Maharashtra Elections: Sachin Sawant’s Concerns

Maharashtra Congress General Secretary, Sachin Sawant, has expressed his dissatisfaction with being nominated for the Andheri West constituency in the upcoming assembly elections. Sawant, who has worked extensively in Bandra East, had hoped to contest from there instead. Despite his request to the party high command, including Ramesh Chennithala, Sawant was fielded from Andheri West.

The Congress party recently announced its third list of candidates, bringing the total to 87. Sawant emphasized that his primary goal is to strengthen the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) alliance and defeat the ruling Mahayuti coalition, which includes the BJP and Shiv Sena (Eknath Shinde faction).

Election Preparations Intensify

As the election date of November 20 approaches, both the ruling Mahayuti and the opposition MVA are ramping up their efforts. The nomination process for the 288 assembly seats has begun, with results expected on November 23.

The MVA, comprising Congress, Shiv Sena (UBT), and the Nationalist Congress Party (Sharad Pawar), has agreed on a seat-sharing arrangement for 255 constituencies, with each party contesting 85 seats. The remaining 23 seats will be allocated based on party lists.

Past Election Results

In the 2019 elections, the BJP secured 105 seats, Shiv Sena 56, and Congress 44. In 2014, the BJP won 122 seats, Shiv Sena 63, and Congress 42.
