S. Ravivarman Visits Kallakurichi Hospital After Illicit Liquor Tragedy
Kallakurichi (Tamil Nadu) [India], June 22: S. Ravivarman, Director of the National Commission for Scheduled Castes, visited Kallakurichi Government Hospital to meet victims of an illicit liquor tragedy. At least 53 people have died, and many are under treatment in various hospitals in Tamil Nadu.
Ravivarman emphasized the responsibility of political leaders to spread awareness about the dangers of illicit liquor. He praised the doctors for their efforts, noting that timely medical intervention saved many lives. However, six patients remain in critical condition.
Ravivarman stated, “This incident should not have happened, but unfortunately it did, and a few people lost their lives. Awareness of how dangerous illicit liquor is needs to be created among men and women in villages.”
Kallakurichi Superintendent of Police, Rajat Chaturvedi, mentioned that raids are ongoing, and the CB-CID is taking over the investigation. He assured that a press note would be released soon.
Kallakurichi District Collector MS Prasanth reported that out of 193 patients, 140 are currently safe. Seven arrests have been made, and special doctors were mobilized to provide the best treatment. Many patients with respiratory problems have recovered.
Meanwhile, a ruckus erupted in the Tamil Nadu Assembly when AIADMK demanded a discussion on the tragedy, leading to a walkout after the Speaker refused.
