S Paramesh Becomes New Chief of Indian Coast Guard

On Tuesday, Director General S Paramesh officially took over as the new chief of the Indian Coast Guard at the headquarters in New Delhi. He was honored with a guard of honor during the ceremony. The appointment was made by the Centre on Monday, following the passing of his predecessor, DG Rakesh Pal, last month.

Paramesh has been a part of the Indian Coast Guard for over three decades, serving in various roles both on land and at sea. He is an alumnus of the National Defence College in New Delhi and the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington. His career is marked by numerous achievements and a strong record of performance.

Specialized in Navigation and Direction, Paramesh has commanded major vessels like the Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel Samar and the Offshore Patrol Vessel Vishwast. His significant staff roles include Deputy Director General (Operations and Coastal Security), Principal Director (Operations) at the Coast Guard Headquarters in New Delhi, and Chief Staff Officer (Operations) at the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters (East) in Chennai.

He has also led the Coast Guard Region (East), Coast Guard Region (West), and served as the Coast Guard Commander (Eastern Seaboard) from July 23, 2018, to August 7, 2023, before becoming the Additional Director General Coast Guard. Paramesh has been awarded the President’s Tatrakshak Medal for Distinguished Service, the Tatrakshak Medal, the Director General Coast Guard Commendation in 2012, and the FOCINC (East) Commendation in 2009.
