S Paramesh Appointed as New Chief of Indian Coast Guard

On October 14, the Indian government announced the appointment of S Paramesh as the new chief of the Indian Coast Guard. He will officially take on this role on October 15. Paramesh has been serving as the acting Director General following the passing of his predecessor, DG Rakesh Pal, last month.

With over three decades of service, Paramesh has held various significant positions both on land and at sea. He is a graduate of the National Defence College in New Delhi and the Defence Services Staff College in Wellington. His career is marked by numerous achievements and a strong record of performance.

Specialized in Navigation and Direction, Paramesh has commanded major vessels like the Advanced Offshore Patrol Vessel Samar and the Offshore Patrol Vessel Vishwast. His notable staff roles include Deputy Director General of Operations and Coastal Security, Principal Director of Operations at the Coast Guard Headquarters in New Delhi, and Chief Staff Officer of Operations at the Coast Guard Regional Headquarters in Chennai.

Paramesh has also led the Coast Guard Regions East and West and served as the Coast Guard Commander of the Eastern Seaboard from July 2018 to August 2023. He has been honored with the President’s Tatrakshak Medal for Distinguished Service, the Tatrakshak Medal, and received commendations from the Director General Coast Guard in 2012 and FOCINC (East) in 2009.
