S Jaishankar Meets Sergey Lavrov at ASEAN Events in Laos

External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met his Russian counterpart Sergey Lavrov on the sidelines of ASEAN events in Vientiane, Laos. They were seen sharing a laugh and shaking hands in a picture shared by the Russian Embassy in India.

During their meeting, Jaishankar expressed strong concern about Indian nationals in the war zone and discussed the global strategic landscape. He noted the progress in many areas since their last meeting in December 2023.

Jaishankar also participated in the ASEAN meeting, highlighting the importance of political, economic, and security cooperation with ASEAN. He thanked Singapore’s Foreign Minister Vivian Balakrishnan for his wishes on Jaishankar’s reappointment and looked forward to working with the Philippines’ Secretary of Foreign Affairs, Enrique Manalo.

Jaishankar congratulated Laos for its chairmanship of ASEAN and welcomed Timor-Leste as an observer. He mentioned that India would soon open an embassy in Delhi and undertake high-level visits to strengthen ASEAN-India relations.
