On Thursday, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar welcomed Director General Yaakov Blitshtein of Israel in Delhi. They discussed the ongoing development of cooperation between India and Israel and exchanged views on the current situation in West Asia.

17th Round of Foreign Office Consultations

Earlier on Wednesday, India and Israel held the 17th Round of Foreign Office Consultations. Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri expressed India’s concern over the escalating situation in West Asia and emphasized the need for restraint, dialogue, and diplomacy. The Indian delegation was led by Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, while the Israeli side was led by Director General Yaakov Blitshtein.

The discussions highlighted the strength of the India-Israel Strategic Partnership, covering various bilateral issues and reviewing the entire range of bilateral endeavors. Both sides also shared their views on the situation in West Asia and the Indo-Pacific region.

Condemnation of Terror Attacks

During the consultations, Foreign Secretary Misri reiterated India’s strong condemnation of the October 7 terror attacks on Israel. He called for the immediate release of all hostages and a ceasefire.

Tributes and Healthcare Initiatives

Earlier in the day, Yaakov Blitshtein paid tribute to the victims of the 26/11 terror attack at Nirman House in Mumbai. He also inaugurated the Advanced Antimicrobial Emergency Room at JJ Hospital in Mumbai. Speaking about the hospital, Blitshtein praised its 118 years of service and emphasized the importance of good healthcare, especially given the current difficult situation in Israel.
