S Jaishankar Meets German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin
External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar met with German Chancellor Olaf Scholz in Berlin, where he conveyed Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s personal greetings. Jaishankar shared his experience on X, expressing his honor in meeting Scholz and looking forward to Scholz’s visit to India for the 7th Intergovernmental Consultations.
Official Visit to Germany
Jaishankar’s visit to Germany took place from September 10-11, marking his third bilateral visit to Berlin since becoming External Affairs Minister and his second visit to Germany this year. During his visit, he met with German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock to review bilateral relations and prepare for the upcoming 7th India-Germany Inter-Governmental Consultations in New Delhi in October 2024.
Meetings and Discussions
Jaishankar and Baerbock discussed various regional and global issues, including Ukraine, the Indo-Pacific, and West Asia. Jaishankar also met with Jens Ploetner, Foreign and Security Policy Advisor to the German Chancellor, and Boris Pistorius, Federal Minister of Defence, to reaffirm their commitment to deepening strategic, defense, and security cooperation between India and Germany.
Additionally, Jaishankar met with Friedrich Merz, Chairman of the CDU/CSU Parliamentary Group, Michael Roth, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee of the Bundestag, and other German parliamentarians to discuss enhancing bilateral engagement and parliamentary cooperation.
Guest of Honour
During his visit, Jaishankar was invited as the Guest of Honour to address German Ambassadors and business leaders at the Annual Conference of German Ambassadors. India and Germany have maintained a strategic partnership since 2000, and they will celebrate the 25th anniversary of this partnership next year. Their cooperation spans various sectors, including trade, investment, defense, science, technology, sustainability, and more.
