External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar is on a five-day visit to Australia, where he paid tribute to Mahatma Gandhi at Roma Street Parklands in Brisbane. Inauguration of New Consulate

Jaishankar inaugurated the new Consulate General of India in Brisbane, aiming to enhance India’s relationship with Queensland. He expressed gratitude to Queensland’s Governor, Dr. Jeannette Young, and other officials for attending the ceremony.

Strengthening Economic Ties

During his visit, Jaishankar met with Governor Jeannette Young to discuss economic and trade cooperation with Queensland. He also extended greetings to the Kingdom of Tonga on their National Day, reflecting India’s commitment to Pacific Island nations.

Focus on QUAD and Global Cooperation

Jaishankar’s visit includes co-chairing the 15th Foreign Ministers’ Framework Dialogue with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong. He addressed the Indian diaspora, emphasizing the importance of democracies like India and Australia and the role of QUAD in shaping a stable global order. The QUAD, comprising India, the US, Japan, and Australia, focuses on collaboration beyond security, sharing democratic values and market economies.
