S Jaishankar Highlights QUAD’s Role in Shaping Global Order

Brisbane, Australia

On November 3, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke to the Indian community at the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia. He emphasized the importance of the QUAD, a group consisting of India, the US, Japan, and Australia, in creating a stable global order.

Jaishankar explained that the QUAD is more than just a security alliance. It represents four democracies and market economies with a history of global contributions. These maritime nations have found a common agenda to work on, which goes beyond security concerns.

He noted that the global role of the US is changing, and the QUAD offers a collaborative approach to address global challenges. Jaishankar described the QUAD as “option three” for addressing the global contribution deficit left by the US.

During his five-day visit to Australia from November 3 to November 7, Jaishankar will inaugurate India’s 4th consulate in Australia and co-chair the 15th Foreign Ministers’ Framework Dialogue with Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong in Canberra.
