External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke at the East Asia Summit in Vientiane, Laos, emphasizing the significance of Nalanda University in Bihar as a commitment to the summit. He highlighted the decade-long Act East Policy and India’s support for ASEAN unity.

Jaishankar noted India’s consistent contributions to the EAS Plan of Action, including the EAS Conference on Maritime Security and Cooperation held in Mumbai. He also appreciated the participation of ASEAN members in the Voice of the Global South Summit.

Discussing regional issues, Jaishankar stressed the importance of peace and stability in the South China Sea, the situation in Myanmar, and called for de-escalation in Gaza. He also mentioned India’s humanitarian assistance to Palestine and the need for dialogue in the Ukraine conflict.

The new Nalanda University campus, a collaboration between India and EAS countries, is a ‘Net Zero’ Green Campus with extensive facilities, including academic blocks, auditoriums, a student hostel, and a sports complex. The campus is self-sustaining with solar plants, water treatment facilities, and other environment-friendly features.
