In New Delhi, External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar spoke about the evolving nature of international friendships in a multipolar world. At a book launch event, he noted that some global partners might be more complex due to differing cultures and diplomatic practices. Jaishankar emphasized the importance of respecting sovereignty and territorial integrity in international relations.

He explained India’s aim to be a ‘Vishwamitra,’ or global friend, by fostering relationships with many countries. This approach is supported by India’s non-dogmatic civilization and self-confidence. Jaishankar highlighted the benefits of the QUAD partnership with the US, Japan, and Australia, and the growing ties with the UAE, Israel, Russia, and France. He credited Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s leadership for these diplomatic advancements.

Jaishankar was speaking at the launch of the book “Friends: India’s Closest Strategic Partners” by Sreeram Chaulia at the India Habitat Centre.
