New Delhi, India – August 29, 2024: External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar announced that the New Education Policy (NEP) 2020 is not just a policy but a vision for the future of education in India. He spoke at an event focused on the Internationalization of Education, where a Letter of Intent was handed over to the University of Southampton to establish its campus in India under NEP 2020.

Jaishankar emphasized that this development aims to elevate India’s educational standards to global levels and strengthen India-UK cooperation in education. He expressed confidence that such initiatives will prepare Indian youth for the world and foster global understanding and cooperation.

Jaishankar highlighted the strong bilateral ties between India and the UK, with education being a key pillar. He stated, “NEP 2020 is more than just a policy; it is a vision for the future of education in India, aspiring to elevate our standards to the highest global levels.”

Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan also attended the event and described the initiative as a step towards realizing the goal of ‘internationalization at home’ as envisioned in NEP 2020. He expressed happiness that more globally renowned Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) are showing interest in collaborating with Indian institutions.

Pradhan added that establishing foreign university campuses in India and Indian HEIs abroad is about creating a vibrant ecosystem of research, knowledge exchange, and global collaboration. He extended his compliments to the University of Southampton for strengthening India-UK relations and invited other top institutions to come to India.

The event was attended by several dignitaries, including Sanjay Murthy, Secretary of the Department of Higher Education, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, UK Deputy High Commissioner to India Christina Scott, University of Southampton Vice-President Andrew Atherton, and UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar.
