Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov Meets UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres at UN General Assembly
New York [US], September 27: Russian Foreign Affairs Minister Sergey Lavrov met with UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres during the 79th Session of the UN General Assembly in New York. They discussed the ongoing war in Ukraine and its global impact, as well as UN-Russia cooperation and the implementation of the Pact for the Future.
Lavrov also met with India’s External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar to discuss bilateral cooperation and international issues, including preparations for the BRICS Summit and the situation in the Asia-Pacific Region.
Additionally, Lavrov held talks with UNRWA Commissioner-General Philippe Lazzarini about the tensions in the Arab-Israeli conflict zone, focusing on humanitarian response priorities in the Gaza Strip. He also met with Jordan’s Foreign Minister Ayman Safadi.
On September 23, the UN General Assembly adopted the ‘Pact for the Future,’ aimed at addressing challenges like climate change, conflict, and human rights. The Pact was adopted by consensus, despite a small group of countries led by Russia attempting a last-minute amendment.
