The Russian embassy has clarified its stance on the recruitment of Indian nationals for the Russian Army, stating that Moscow is aligned with New Delhi on this issue. Roman Babushkin, Charge D’Affaires at the Russian Embassy in India, emphasized that Russia is committed to resolving this problem quickly.

Babushkin explained, “We are on the same page as India on this problem. It is not a common problem… We have information that these people were cheated by agents who are into criminal activities and brought them through illegal channels.” He added that investigations are ongoing against the agents involved in this illegal recruitment.

Prime Minister Modi has taken a strong stance on this issue during his meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Foreign Secretary Vinay Mohan Kwatra noted that the Russian government has assured an early discharge of the affected Indian nationals from the army service.

In April, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) busted a major human trafficking network that was luring Indian nationals into war zones under the pretext of lucrative jobs. These traffickers used social media channels and local contacts to deceive people.

Prime Minister Modi concluded his two-day visit to Russia and departed for Austria, praising the Indian community for strengthening ties between India and Russia.
