Ruckus in Jammu and Kashmir Assembly Over Article 370 Banner

The Jammu and Kashmir Assembly in Srinagar faced disruptions as opposition members objected to a banner displayed by Khurshid Ahmad Sheikh, an MLA from the Awami Ittehad Party and brother of Engineer Rashid. The banner was related to Article 370, which has been a contentious issue.

Sunil Sharma, the Leader of Opposition, along with other BJP MLAs, opposed the banner, leading to a scuffle in the assembly. The Speaker had to call in marshals to restore order and asked the opposition to maintain decorum.

Earlier, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) introduced a resolution seeking the restoration of Article 370 and 35A, which were abrogated by the Government of India in 2019. The resolution condemned the actions as unconstitutional and signed by PDP leaders, including Sheikh Khurshid.

The assembly session, which began on November 4, saw similar uproar on its first day when PDP leader Waheed Para introduced a resolution against the revocation of Article 370. PDP Supremo Mehbooba Mufti praised the move. The session is set to conclude on November 8, with additional proceedings including obituary references for former legislators.
