RSS Leader Sunil Ambekar Talks About Caste Census and Safety Measures
Palakkad (Kerala) [India], September 2: Sunil Ambekar, the Akhil Bharatiya Prachar Pramukh of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), stated that caste-based census should be used to help communities that are lagging behind, rather than for political purposes. He emphasized the importance of addressing caste issues seriously for the sake of national unity and integrity.
Speaking at a press conference on the concluding day of the RSS Samanvay Baithak, Ambekar said, “In our Hindu society, we have a sensitive issue of our caste and caste relations… It is an important issue of our national unity and integrity, so it should be dealt with very seriously, not just on the basis of elections, election practices or politics.”
He further mentioned that the government has previously collected such data and can do so again, but it should be used solely for the welfare of those communities and castes that need special attention. “It should not be used as a political tool for electioneering,” he added.
Ambekar also addressed the recent incident of rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at Kolkata’s RG Kar Medical College and Hospital. He outlined five fronts on which the RSS will tackle this issue: legal action, societal awareness, family values, education on sensitivity, and self-defense training.
He expressed concern over harmful media content, noting that those involved in such crimes often consume such content extensively. The RSS plans to address this issue within their organization and develop programs to combat it.
The RSS Samanvay Baithak began on August 31 in Palakkad, Kerala, and concluded on September 2.
