RPI (A) Plans to Contest Haryana Elections, Seeks Alliance with BJP
Union minister Ramdas Athawale’s Republican Party of India (Athawale) has announced plans to contest 8-10 seats in the upcoming Haryana Assembly Elections. The party will support the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on the remaining seats, according to RPI (A)’s Haryana unit President Ravi Sonu Kundli.
During a press conference, Kundli stated that RPI (A) is demanding two reserved seats from the BJP. If no agreement is reached, the party will field candidates on 8-10 seats independently and support BJP candidates on the remaining 80 seats.
Party leader Manju Chibbar specified that the two seats they are demanding are Mullana in Ambala and Nilokheri in Karnal. She emphasized that RPI (A) has been a long-time ally of the BJP but will contest independently if necessary to maintain party morale.
Chibbar also highlighted the key issues RPI (A) aims to address in the elections, including proper living conditions for slum dwellers, combating women’s exploitation, and reducing drug abuse in the region.
Voting in Haryana is scheduled for October 5, with the last date for nominations being September 12. A recent meeting chaired by BJP National President Jagat Prakash Nadda discussed candidate lists, with Union Home Minister Amit Shah and other senior leaders in attendance. The first list of BJP candidates will be released soon.
In a previous meeting on August 29, attended by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, over 50 candidate names were approved. However, due to changing political conditions and new members joining the party, some seats are being reconsidered.
Along with Haryana, vote counting in Jammu and Kashmir will take place on October 8.
