New Delhi, June 30: India’s cricket stars Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli have retired from T20 International cricket after leading India to victory in the ICC T20 World Cup against South Africa. This win ended India’s 11-year-long wait for an ICC trophy.

Indian fast bowler Mohammed Shami praised both players on social media. He highlighted Rohit’s leadership and Virat’s passion and skills. Shami said Rohit’s calm presence and Virat’s dedication will be missed.

Rohit Sharma’s Achievements

Rohit scored 257 runs in the tournament, with an average of 36.71 and a strike rate of over 156. He retires as a double T20 World Cup champion, having also won in 2007. In his T20I career, Rohit scored 4,231 runs, including five centuries and 32 fifties.

Virat Kohli’s Achievements

Virat scored 151 runs in the tournament, including a crucial 76 in the final. He is the highest run-scorer in T20 World Cup history with 1,292 runs. In his T20I career, he scored 4,188 runs, including one century and 38 fifties.

The Final Match

India batted first and scored 176/7, thanks to key partnerships involving Virat, Axar Patel, and Shivam Dube. South Africa’s chase fell short at 169/8, with Arshdeep Singh, Jasprit Bumrah, and Hardik Pandya taking crucial wickets. Virat was named ‘Player of the Match’.

With this victory, India has secured its first ICC title since the Champions Trophy in 2013.
