Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden End Successful Tennis Partnership
In Turin, Italy, the India-Australia men’s doubles tennis team of Rohan Bopanna and Matthew Ebden, who won the Australian Open this year, have decided to part ways after two successful years. They first joined forces in January 2023 and concluded their partnership with a win against Germany’s Kevin Krawietz and Tim Puetz in their final group match of the ATP Finals 2024. Despite the victory, they did not advance to the semifinals.
Reflecting on their time together, Ebden expressed, “Obviously, we were already out but to at least get one final win together, it was a great way to finish the partnership and it’s been an amazing two years.” During their collaboration, they won three trophies, including the Australian Open grand slam title, the ATP Masters 1000 title at Indian Wells 2023, and the Miami Open 2024. They also triumphed at the Qatar Open last year and reached the US Open final.
Ebden, who also won the Paris Olympics gold with John Peers, added, “To finish on a win and at least get one win here at the ATP Finals, I think was fitting or deserving maybe. It was really nice to share one more big moment.” The duo had initially planned to separate last year but chose to continue for the 2024 season. Ebden praised Bopanna’s dedication, saying, “I have to thank him for his amazing effort and commitment and dedication at 44 years old. It’s been a great effort. I wish him all the best for the future.” Bopanna will reunite with his former Croatian partner, Ivan Dodig, for the 2025 season.
