Rocket Attack from Lebanon Injures IDF Soldiers in Israel

On August 6, six Israel Defence Forces (IDF) soldiers were injured after rockets were fired from Lebanon into northern Israel. The rockets hit the Galilee Panhandle and Golan Heights, with one Hezbollah drone causing a fire at Shraga Camp near Nahariya. The soldiers were taken to hospitals for minor injuries, including ringing in their ears from the blast.

Additional Hezbollah drones impacted the Nahariya area. An Iron Dome interceptor missile malfunctioned, hitting a highway and critically injuring a motorist. A total of 19 people were taken to Galilee Medical Center in Nahariya for treatment, including the critically wounded man, a woman in moderate condition, and 17 others in good condition. Some victims suffered from headaches, tinnitus, and acute anxiety, but all have been released from the medical center.

This incident follows the killing of senior Hezbollah commander Ali Jamal al-Din Jawad by an Israeli drone strike in southern Lebanon. Jawad was a commander in Hezbollah’s elite Radwan unit and was struck in the village of Aabba.

US Secretary of Defence Lloyd Austin spoke with Israeli counterpart Yoav Gallant, reaffirming the US commitment to Israel’s defense against threats from Iran, Hezbollah, and other Iran-aligned militia groups. Austin mentioned the attack on US forces at Al-Asad Airbase in western Iraq as a dangerous escalation and discussed measures to strengthen the US military posture.

Tensions in West Asia have escalated following the deaths of several key Hezbollah and Hamas leaders. Last month, the IDF confirmed that top Hezbollah commander Fuad Shukr was killed in an Israeli strike in southern Lebanon, leading to intense strikes between Israel and Hezbollah and sparking fears of a wider conflict.
