New Delhi, June 24: Former Indian cricketer Robin Uthappa expressed his desire to see star India batter Virat Kohli score a solid half-century during the high-profile ICC T20 World Cup Super Eights match against Australia. Uthappa mentioned that even if Kohli’s runs come at a lower strike rate, it would still be beneficial for the team.

India vs Australia: A Must-Win Match

India and Australia are set to face each other in a crucial match at Saint Lucia on Monday. India leads Group One with two wins in two games, while Australia is in second place with one win and one loss. India recently defeated Bangladesh by 50 runs, whereas Australia lost to Afghanistan by 21 runs.

Virat Kohli’s Performance

In the ongoing tournament, Virat Kohli has scored 66 runs in five games, with an average of 13.20 and a strike rate of 108.19. His highest score so far is 37. Despite his struggles on certain pitches, Kohli was expected to shine, especially after a stellar IPL season with Royal Challengers Bengaluru, where he scored 741 runs in 15 innings.

Uthappa’s Comments

Speaking on Ravichandran Ashwin’s YouTube channel, Uthappa emphasized the importance of a strong performance from Kohli before the semifinals. He believes that a solid innings from Kohli could significantly boost India’s chances. Uthappa also supported skipper Rohit Sharma’s aggressive batting approach, noting that Rohit should continue playing in his preferred style.
