Rishabh Pant Shines with Century Against Bangladesh in Chennai Test

Former Pakistan cricketer Basit Ali praised Indian wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant for his marvellous century against Bangladesh in the ongoing Chennai Test. Pant scored 109 runs from 128 balls at a strike rate of 85.16, hitting 13 fours and 4 sixes. His innings ended when Mehidy Hasan Miraz dismissed him in the 56th over of India’s second inning.

Basit Ali said, ‘Rishabh Pant played like how you bat on Australian pitches. I liked seeing the shots he played because many people had said that he might never return to the field after the accident. We must give the credit as he worked very hard after the injury. He came back with full confidence and ticked all the boxes that you need in Test cricket.’

Pant made his return to Test cricket in the two-match series after a life-threatening road accident in late 2022. Basit Ali also criticized India’s decision to declare their innings early, suggesting that KL Rahul should have batted longer to regain form. Rahul scored an unbeaten 22 runs from 19 balls, including four boundaries.

At the end of day three, Bangladesh were 158/4, with skipper Najmul Hossain Shanto (51*) and Shakib Al Hasan (5*) unbeaten. Jasprit Bumrah and Ravichandran Ashwin took key wickets for India. India declared their innings at 287/4, setting a target of 515 runs for Bangladesh to win the first match of the series.
